Book of Sirach 51:12-20.
I thank the LORD and I praise him; I bless the name of the LORD.
When I was young and innocent, I sought wisdom.
She came to me in her beauty, and until the end I will cultivate her.
As the blossoms yielded to ripening grapes, the heart's joy, My feet kept to the level path because from earliest youth I was familiar with her.
In the short time I paid heed, I met with great instruction.
Since in this way I have profited, I will give my teacher grateful praise.
I became resolutely devoted to her-- the good I persistently strove for.
I burned with desire for her, never turning back. I became preoccupied with her, never weary of extolling her. My hand opened her gate and I came to know her secrets.
For her I purified my hands; in cleanness I attained to her. At first acquaintance with her, I gained understanding such that I will never forsake her.

The law of the LORD is perfect, refreshing the soul. The decree of the LORD is trustworthy, giving wisdom to the simple.
The precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart. The command of the LORD is clear, enlightening the eye.
The fear of the LORD is pure, enduring forever. The statutes of the LORD are true, all of them just;
More desirable than gold, than a hoard of purest gold, Sweeter also than honey or drippings from the comb.

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Mark 11:27-33.
Jesus and his disciples returned once more to Jerusalem. As he was walking in the temple area, the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders approached him
and said to him, "By what authority are you doing these things? Or who gave you this authority to do them?"
Jesus said to them, "I shall ask you one question. Answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things.
Was John's baptism of heavenly or of human origin? Answer me."
They discussed this among themselves and said, "If we say, 'Of heavenly origin,' he will say, '(Then) why did you not believe him?'
But shall we say, 'Of human origin'?"--they feared the crowd, for they all thought John really was a prophet.
So they said to Jesus in reply, "We do not know." Then Jesus said to them, "Neither shall I tell you by what authority I do these things."

"By what authority are you doing these things?"

The Son who is like him is the Father's own; he who is compared with Him is born from Him; he who does the works that belong to Him is not external to Him (cf. Jn 5,19)...The Son performs the Father's works, and on those grounds he demands that we should believe he is God's Son. This is no claim of mere arrogance; for he bases it upon his works, and bids us examine them. And he bears witness that these works are not his own, but his Father's. He would not have our thoughts distracted by the splendour of the deeds from the evidence for his birth. And because people could not penetrate the mystery of the body he had taken, the humanity born of Mary, and recognise the Son of God, he appeals to these deeds for confirmation of his right to the name: «If I perform my Father's works, even if you do not believe me, believe the works» (cf. Jn 10, 37-38)...

If he seems unworthy, in his bodily lowliness, to bear the Divine name, yet he demands that we should at least believe his works. Why should the mystery of his human birth hinder our recognition of his birth as God?... «Even if you do not believe me, believe the works, so that you may realize and understand that the Father is in me and I in the Father»...

This is the nature which is his by birth, this the mystery of the saving faith: that we must not divide the unity, nor separate the nature from the birth, but must confess that the living God was in truth born from the living God... «Just as the living Father sent me so I live by the Father» (cf. Jn 6,57)... «Just as the Father has life in himself, so also he gave to his Son the possession of life in himself» (Jn 5,26).

Saturday, 05 March 2011 Sts Adrian and Eubulus, Martyrs (+ 309) SAINTS ADRIAN and EUBULUS Martyrs (+ 309)         In the seventh year of Diocletian's persecution, continued by Galerius Maximianus, when Firmilian, the most bloody governor of Palestine, had stained Cæsarea with the blood of many illustrious martyrs, Adrian and Eubulus came out of the country called Magantia to Cæsarea, in order to visit the holy confessors there.         At the gates of the city they were asked, as others were, whither they were going, and upon what errand. They ingenuously confessed the truth, and were brought before the president, who ordered them to be tortured and their sides to be torn with iron hooks, and then condemned them to be exposed to wild beasts.         Two days after, when the pagans at Cæsarea celebrated the festival of the public Genius, Adrian was exposed to a lion, and not being despatched by that beast, but only mangled, was at length killed by the sword.         Eubulus was treated in the same manner two days later. The judge offered him his liberty if he would sacrifice to idols; but the Saint preferred a glorious death, and was the last that suffered in this persecution at Cæsarea, which had now continued twelve years, under three successive governors, Flavian, Urban, and Firmilian. En mi juventud, antes de andar por el mundo, busqué abiertamente la sabiduría en la oración;
a la entrada del Templo, pedí obtenerla y la seguiré buscando hasta el fin.
Cuando floreció como un racimo que madura, mi corazón puso en ella su alegría; mi pie avanzó por el camino recto y desde mi juventud seguí sus huellas.
Apenas le presté un poco de atención, la recibí y adquirí una gran enseñanza.
Yo he progresado gracias a ella: al que me dio la sabiduría, le daré la gloria.
Porque resolví ponerla en práctica, tuve celo por el bien y no me avergonzaré de ello.
Mi alma luchó para alcanzarla, fui minucioso en la práctica de la Ley, extendí mis manos hacia el cielo y deploré lo que ignoraba de ella.
Hacia ella dirigí mi alma y, conservándome puro, la encontré. Con ella adquirí inteligencia desde el comienzo, por eso no seré abandonado.

Salmo 19,8.9.10.11.
La ley del Señor es perfecta, reconforta el alma; el testimonio del Señor es verdadero, da sabiduría al simple.
Los preceptos del Señor son rectos, alegran el corazón; los mandamientos del Señor son claros, iluminan los ojos.
La palabra del Señor es pura, permanece para siempre; los juicios del Señor son la verdad, enteramente justos.
Son más atrayentes que el oro, que el oro más fino; más dulces que la miel, más que el jugo del panal.

Evangelio según San Marcos 11,27-33.
Y llegaron de nuevo a Jerusalén. Mientras Jesús caminaba por el Templo, los sumos sacerdotes, los escribas y los ancianos se acercaron a él
y le dijeron: "¿Con qué autoridad haces estas cosas? ¿O quién te dio autoridad para hacerlo?".
Jesús les respondió: "Yo también quiero hacerles una sola pregunta. Si me responden, les diré con qué autoridad hago estas cosas.
Díganme: el bautismo de Juan, ¿venía del cielo o de los hombres?".
Ellos se hacían este razonamiento: "Si contestamos: 'Del cielo', él nos dirá: '¿Por qué no creyeron en él?'.
¿Diremos entonces: "De los hombres'?". Pero como temían al pueblo, porque todos consideraban que Juan había sido realmente un profeta,
respondieron a Jesús: "No sabemos". Y él les respondió: "Yo tampoco les diré con qué autoridad hago estas cosas".

«¿Con qué autoridad haces esto?»

     El Hijo no puede hacer nada por su cuenta sino lo que viere hacer al Padre. Lo que hace este, eso mismo hace también el Hijo (Jn 5,19)....Sí, el Hijo realiza las obras del Padre; es por esto por lo que Él nos pide que creamos que es el Hijo de Dios. Él no se arroga ningún título que no le haya sido dado; ni en sus propias obras se apoya su reivindicación. No! Él da testimonio de que no son sus obras sino las de su Padre. Y Él atestigua también que el resplandor de sus obras le viene de su origen divino. Pero ¿cómo los hombres podrán reconocer en Él al Hijo de Dios, en el misterio de este cuerpo que ha asumido, en este hombre nacido de María?
     Esto es para hacer penetrar en sus corazones la fe en que es el Señor quien lleva a cabo todas estas obras: « si hago las obras de mi Padre, aunque no me creáis a mí, creed a las obras » (Jn 10,38).
     Si la humildad de su cuerpo es un obstáculo para creer en su palabra, Él nos pide que creamos en sus obras. En efecto, ¿por qué el misterio de su nacimiento humano nos impide percibir su origen divino?... « si no queréis creer en mí, creed en mis obras para que comprendáis y sepáis que el Padre está en mí y yo en el Padre»...
     Tal cual es la naturaleza que Él posee por su origen; tal cual es el misterio de una fe que nos garantiza la salvación: no hay que dividir a aquellos que son uno, no hay que privar al Hijo de su naturaleza y proclamar la verdad del Dios vivo nacido de Dios vivo... « Como el Padre que vive me ha enviado, y yo vivo por el Padre» (Jn 6,57). « Porque, igual que el Padre tiene vida en sí mismo, así ha dado también al Hijo tener vida en sí mismo» (Jn 5,26).

sábado 05 Marzo 2011 San Adrián San Adrián. Este último era un centurión romano, de la milicia imperial, en la época del emperador Maximiano, a finales del siglo III. En una ocasión, mientras custodiaba a 33 cautivos cristianos condenados al martirio, estos lo convirtieron a su fe cuando él les preguntó qué recompensa esperaban obtener por el castigo que estaban a punto de sufrir. "La gloria de Dios", fue la convincente respuesta. Adrián los dejó libres y, desde luego, fue apresado por órden del propio emperador. Lo torturaron para que confesara dónde estaban los prisioneros, pero Adrián resistió. Ante su negativa, hicieron traer a su esposa, Natalia, para que presenciara el suplicio. Ella, que era cristiana en secreto desde hacía algún tiempo, en lugar de presionarlo para que confesara, le dio ánimos para resistir, para que no pensara el mundo terrenal, sino en la gloria divina. Los torturadores, entonces, cortaron las manos del centurión, que murió desangrado. Su esposa escondió una de sus manos entre la ropa y huyó, al poco tiempo, junto a otros cristianos en un barco, llevando sólo la mano de su esposo. Pero en mitad de la travesía, una terrible tormenta dejó la nave a la deriva. Entonces la mano de Adrián tomó el timón y llevó a los fugitivos a un sitio seguro. Luego, Natalia llevó la mano al lugar donde estaba enterrado el mártir, la puso junto al cuerpo y murió abrazada al esposo. Oremos Dios todopoderoso y eterno, que diste a los santos mártires Adriano y Nataliala valentía de aceptar la muerte por el nombre de Cristo: concede también tu fuerza a nuestra debilidad para que, a ejemplo de aquellos que no dudaron en morir por tí, nosotros sepamos también ser fuertes, confesando tu nombre con nuestras vidas. Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Mark 11:11-26.
Jesus entered Jerusalem and went into the temple area. He looked around at everything and, since it was already late, went out to Bethany with the Twelve.
The next day as they were leaving Bethany he was hungry.
Seeing from a distance a fig tree in leaf, he went over to see if he could find anything on it. When he reached it he found nothing but leaves; it was not the time for figs.
And he said to it in reply, "May no one ever eat of your fruit again!" And his disciples heard it.
They came to Jerusalem, and on entering the temple area he began to drive out those selling and buying there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who were selling doves.
He did not permit anyone to carry anything through the temple area.
Then he taught them saying, "Is it not written: 'My house shall be called a house of prayerfor all peoples'? But you have made it a den of thieves."
The chief priests and the scribes came to hear of it and were seeking a way to put him to death, yet they feared him because the whole crowd was astonished at his teaching.
When evening came, they went out of the city.
Early in the morning, as they were walking along, they saw the fig tree withered to its roots.
Peter remembered and said to him, "Rabbi, look! The fig tree that you cursed has withered."
Jesus said to them in reply, "Have faith in God.
Amen, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, 'Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it shall be done for him.
Therefore I tell you, all that you ask for in prayer, believe that you will receive it and it shall be yours.
When you stand to pray, forgive anyone against whom you have a grievance, so that your heavenly Father may in turn forgive you your transgressions." )

"Stop making my Father's house a marketplace" (Jn 2,16)

«On entering the Temple area Jesus began to drive out those selling and buying there.» Some people were astonished by the resurrection of Lazarus (Jn 11,44), some were overcome with amazement that a widow's son should be raised to life (Lk 7,15), yet others were struck by other miracles. There is no question that it is a wonderful thing to restore a dead body to life. But on my part I am even more struck by the present incident. This man who was the son of a carpenter, a poor fellow without anywhere to live, without shelter to rest, with no army and who was neither leader nor judge – what power had enabled him to... drive out such a large crowd when he himself stood alone? No one protested, no one dared put up a resistance since no one dared resist the Son who was making good the wound inflicted on his Father...

«He began to drive out those selling and buying in the Temple.» If this was possible among the Jews then why should it not be even more so among ourselves? If this could happen in the context of the Law why should it not be even more likely in that of the Gospel?... Christ, a poor man, drives out the buyers and sellers who are rich. The one who sells is thrown out for the same reason as the one who buys. Let no one say: «Look at me, I hold out all I possess, I make offerings to the priests as God commanded.» We read this in a passage from Saint Matthew: «Freely you received, freely give» (Mt 10,8). God's grace is not for sale, it is given.

(1458-1484)

        Casimir, the second son of Casimir III., King of Poland was born A. D. 1458. From the custody of a most virtuous mother, Elizabeth of Austria, he passed to the guardianship of a devoted master, the learned and pious John Dugloss. Thus animated from his earliest years by precept and example, his innocence and piety soon ripened into the practice of heroic virtue.

        At the age of twenty-five, sick of a lingering illness, he foretold the hour of his death, and chose to die a virgin rather than take the life and health which the doctors held out to him in the married state. In an atmosphere of luxury and magnificence the young prince had fasted, worn a hair-shirt, slept upon the bare earth, prayed by night, and watched for the opening of the church doors at dawn. He had become so tenderly devoted to the Passion of Our Lord that at Mass he seemed quite rapt out of himself, and his charity to the poor and afflicted knew no bounds. His love for our blessed Lady he expressed in a long and beautiful hymn, familiar to us in our own tongue.

        The miracles wrought by his body after death fill a volume. The blind saw, the lame walked, the sick were healed, a dead girl was raised to life. And once the Saint in glory led his countrymen to battle, and delivered them by a glorious victory from the schismatic Russian hosts.

        One hundred and twenty-two years after his death the Saint's tomb in the cathedral of Vienna was opened, that the holy body might be transferred to the rich marble chapel where it now lies. The place was damp, and the very vault crumbled away in the hands of the workmen; yet the Saint's body, wrapped in robes of silk, was found whole and incorrupt, and emitted a sweet fragrance, which filled the church and refreshed all who were present. Under his head was found his hymn to Our Lady, which he had had buried with him. The following night three young men saw a brilliant light issuing from the open tomb and streaming through the windows of the chapel.

Viernes de la VIII Semana del Tiempo Ordinario

Libro de Eclesiástico 44,1.9-13.
Elogiemos a los hombres ilustres, a los antepasados de nuestra raza.
Pero hay otros que cayeron en el olvido y desaparecieron como si no hubieran existido; pasaron como si no hubieran nacido, igual que sus hijos después de ellos.
No sucede así con aquellos, los hombres de bien, cuyas obras de justicia no han sido olvidadas.
Con su descendencia se perpetúa la rica herencia que procede de ellos.
Su descendencia fue fiel a las alianzas y también sus nietos, gracias a ellos.
Su descendencia permanecerá para siempre, y su gloria no se extinguirá.

Salmo 149(148),1-2.3-4.5-6.9.
¡Aleluya! Canten al Señor un canto nuevo, resuene su alabanza en la asamblea de los fieles;
que Israel se alegre por su Creador y los hijos de Sión se regocijen por su Rey.
Celebran su Nombre con danzas, cántenle con el tambor y la cítara,
porque el Señor tiene predilección por su pueblo y corona con el triunfo a los humildes.
Que los fieles se alegren por su gloria y canten jubilosos en sus fiestas.

Evangelio según San Marcos 11,11-26.
Jesús llegó a Jerusalén y fue al Templo; y después de observarlo todo, como ya era tarde, salió con los Doce hacia Betania.
Al día siguiente, cuando salieron de Betania, Jesús sintió hambre.
Al divisar de lejos una higuera cubierta de hojas, se acercó para ver si encontraba algún fruto, pero no había más que hojas; porque no era la época de los higos.
Dirigiéndose a la higuera, le dijo: "Que nadie más coma de tus frutos". Y sus discípulos lo oyeron.
Cuando llegaron a Jerusalén, Jesús entró en el Templo y comenzó a echar a los que vendían y compraban en él. Derribó las mesas de los cambistas y los puestos de los vendedores de palomas,
y prohibió que transportaran cargas por el Templo.
Y les enseñaba: "¿Acaso no está escrito: Mi Casa será llamada Casa de oración para todas las naciones? Pero ustedes la han convertido en una cueva de ladrones".
Cuando se enteraron los sumos sacerdotes y los escribas, buscaban la forma de matarlo, porque le tenían miedo, ya que todo el pueblo estaba maravillado de su enseñanza.
Al caer la tarde, Jesús y sus discípulos salieron de la ciudad.
A la mañana siguiente, al pasar otra vez, vieron que la higuera se había secado de raíz.
Pedro, acordándose, dijo a Jesús: "Maestro, la higuera que has maldecido se ha secado".
Jesús le respondió: "Tengan fe en Dios.
Porque yo les aseguro que si alguien dice a esta montaña: 'Retírate de ahí y arrójate al mar', sin vacilar en su interior, sino creyendo que sucederá lo que dice, lo conseguirá.
Por eso les digo: Cuando pidan algo en la oración, crean que ya lo tienen y lo conseguirán.
Y cuando ustedes se pongan de pie para orar, si tienen algo en contra de alguien, perdónenlo, y el Padre que está en el cielo les perdonará también sus faltas".
Pero si no perdonan, tampoco el Padre que está en el cielo los perdonará a ustedes.

« No convirtáis en un mercado la casa de mi Padre»

      "Jesús entró en el Templo y empezó a expulsar a los que vendían y compraban".Ciertamente enterados de la resurrección de Lázaro están estupefactos de que el hijo de una viuda haya resucitado, otros se impresionan por otros milagros. Sin duda, es admirable devolver a la vida un cuerpo muerto. Por mi parte, estoy más impresionado por este hecho: este hombre, hijo de carpintero, un pobre sin morada, sin lugar donde reposar, desarmado, ni líder ni juez ¿qué autoridad tiene....para enfrentarse él sólo a una multitud? Nadie ha protestado, nadie ha osado poner resistencia, ninguna persona ha osado oponerse al Hijo que repara la injuria hecha a su Padre...
     "Empezó a expulsar a aquellos que vendían y compraban dentro del Templo" si esto ha sido posible  en casa de los judíos, ¿por qué no puede ser con más razón en nuestra propia casa? Si esto acontece dentro del marco de la Ley ¿por qué no puede ocurrir con más motivo en el marco del Evangelio? ... Cristo, pobre, expulsa a vendedores y compradores que son ricos. Aquellos que venden son expulsados igual que los que compran. Que nadie diga: "Yo regalo todo lo que tengo, yo hago limosna a los pobres como Dios manda".En un pasaje de San Mateo leemos esto:"Gratis habéis recibido, dad gratis" (Mt 10,8). La gracia de Dios no se vende, se da.

San Casimiro

Nació en el año 1458 y fue hijo del rey de Polonia y Gran Duque de Lituania.  Supo practicar de manera eminente las virtudes cristianas, destacando sobre todo en la castidad y en la caridad con los más pobres y necesitados.-  Fue un gran defensor de la fe y mostró especialísima devoción a la Eucaristía y a la virgen María.  Murió joven y tuberculoso el año 1484 en Grodno (antigua Polonia) y está enterrado en Vilna (Lituania).

Señor Dios todopoderoso, a quien conocer es vivir y a quién servir es reinar, concédenos, por intercesión de San Casimiro, servirte con santidad y justicia todos los días de nuestra vida. Por nuestro Señor Jesucristo, tu Hijo.

Now will I recall God's works; what I have seen, I will describe. At God's word were his works brought into being; they do his will as he has ordained for them.
As the rising sun is clear to all, so the glory of the LORD fills all his works;
Yet even God's holy ones must fail in recounting the wonders of the LORD, Though God has given these, his hosts, the strength to stand firm before his glory.
He plumbs the depths and penetrates the heart; their innermost being he understands. The Most High possesses all knowledge, and sees from of old the things that are to come:
He makes known the past and the future, and reveals the deepest secrets.
No understanding does he lack; no single thing escapes him.
Perennial is his almighty wisdom; he is from all eternity one and the same,

And many rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he kept calling out all the more, "Son of David, have pity on me."
Jesus stopped and said, "Call him." So they called the blind man, saying to him, "Take courage; get up, he is calling you."
He threw aside his cloak, sprang up, and came to Jesus.
Jesus said to him in reply, "What do you want me to do for you?" The blind man replied to him, "Master, I want to see."
Jesus told him, "Go your way; your faith has saved you." Immediately he received his sight and followed him on the way.

« He shouted all the louder»

If anyone recognizes the darkness of his blindness... let him cry with his whole mind, let him say: «Jesus, son of David, have mercy on me!» But let us hear what happened when the blind man was crying out: «And the people ahead rebuked him, that he should be silent» (Lk 18,39). What is meant by 'the people ahead' as Jesus comes if not the crowds of bodily desires and the uproar caused by our vices? Before Jesus comes into our hearts they disturb our thoughts by tempting us, and they thoroughly muddle the words in our hearts as we pray. We often wish to be converted to the Lord when we have committed some wrong. When we try to pray earnestly against the wrongs we have committed, images of our sins come into our hearts. They obscure our inner vision, they disturb our minds and overwhelm the sound of our petition...

But let us hear what the blind man, still unenlightened, did. «But he cried out all the more: 'Son of David, have mercy on me'»... In proportion to the tumult of our unspiritual thoughts must be our eagerness to persist in prayer... It is surely necessary that the more harshly our heart's voice is repressed, the more firmly it must persist to overcome the uproar of forbidden thoughts and break in on our Lord's gracious ears by its intrepid perseverance. I believe that everyone observes what I am saying in himself, and herself. When we turn our minds from this world to God, when we are converted to the work of prayer, what we once enjoyed doing we later endure in our prayer as demanding and burdensome. Holy desire only with difficulty banishes the recollection of them from our hearts... But when we persist ardently in our prayer, we fix Jesus to our hearts as he passes by. Hence: «But Jesus stopped and ordered him to be brought to him» (v.40).

Thursday, 03 March 2011 St. Cunegundes, Empress (+ 1040) SAINT CUNEGUNDES Empress (+1040)         Saint Cunegundes was the daughter of Siegfried, the first Count of Luxemburg, and Hadeswige, his pious wife. They instilled into her from her cradle the most tender sentiments of piety, and married her to St. Henry, Duke of Bavaria, who, upon the death of the Emperor Otho III., was chosen king of the Romans, and crowned on the 6th of June, 1002. She was crowned at Paderborn on St. Laurence's day. In the year 1014 she went with her husband to Rome, and received the imperial crown with him from the hands of Pope Benedict VIII. She had, by St. Henry's consent, before her marriage made a vow of virginity. Calumniators afterwards made vile accusations against her, and the holy empress, to remove the scandal of such a slander, trusting in God to prove her innocence, walked over red-hot ploughshares without being hurt. The emperor condemned his too scrupulous fears and credulity, and from that time they lived in the strictest union of hearts, conspiring to promote in everything God's honor and the advancement of piety.         Going once to make a retreat in Hesse, she fell dangerously ill, and made a vow to found a monastery, if she recovered, at Kaffungen, near Cassel, in the diocese of Paderborn, which she executed in a stately manner, and gave it to nuns of the Order of St. Benedict. Before it was finished St. Henry died, in 1024. She earnestly recommended his soul to the prayers of others, especially to her blear nuns, and expressed her longing desire of joining them. She had already exhausted her treasures in founding bishoprics and monasteries, and in relieving the poor, and she had therefore little left now to give. But still thirsting to embrace perfect evangelical poverty, and to renounce all to serve God without obstacle, she assembled a great number of prelates to the dedication of her church of Kaffungen on the anniversary day of her husband's death, 1025; and after the gospel was sung at Mass she offered on the altar a piece of the true cross, and then, putting off her imperial robes, clothed herself with a poor habit; her hair was cut off, and the bishop put on her a veil, and a ring as a pledge of her fidelity to her heavenly Spouse.         After she was consecrated to God in religion, she seemed entirely to forget that she had been empress, and behaved as the last in the house, being persuaded that she was 30 before God. She prayed and read much, worked with her hands, and took a singular pleasure in visiting and comforting the sick.         Thus she passed the last fifteen years of her life. Her mortifications at length reduced her to a very weak condition, and brought on her last sickness. Perceiving that they were preparing a cloth fringed with gold to cover her corpse after her death, she changed color and ordered it to be taken away; nor could she be at rest till she was promised she should be buried as a poor religious in her habit. She died on the 3d of March, 1040. Her body was carried to Bamberg and buried near that of her husband. She was solemnly canonized by Innocent III. in 1200. Libro de Eclesiástico 42,15-25.
Ahora voy a recordar las obras del Señor, lo que yo he visto, lo voy a relatar: por las palabras del Señor existen sus obras.
El sol resplandeciente contempla todas las cosas, y la obra del Señor está llena de su gloria.
No ha sido posible a los santos del Señor relatar todas sus maravillas, las que el Señor todopoderoso estableció sólidamente para que el universo quedara afirmado en su gloria.
El sondea el abismo y el corazón, y penetra en sus secretos designios, porque el Altísimo posee todo el conocimiento y observa los signos de los tiempos.
El anuncia el pasado y el futuro, y revela las huellas de las cosas ocultas:
ningún pensamiento se le escapa, ninguna palabra se le oculta.
El dispuso ordenadamente las grandes obras de su sabiduría, porque existe desde siempre y para siempre; nada ha sido añadido, nada ha sido quitado, y él no tuvo necesidad de ningún consejero.
¡Qué deseables son todas sus obras! Y lo que vemos es apenas una chispa!
Todo tiene vida y permanece para siempre, y todo obedece a un fin determinado.
Todas las cosas van en pareja, una frente a otra, y él no ha hecho nada incompleto:
una cosa asegura el bien de la otra. ¿Quién se saciará de ver su gloria?

Alaben al Señor con la cítara, toquen en su honor el arpa de diez cuerdas;
entonen para él un canto nuevo, toquen con arte, profiriendo aclamaciones.
Porque la palabra del Señor es recta y él obra siempre con lealtad;

Después llegaron a Jericó. Cuando Jesús salía de allí, acompañado de sus discípulos y de una gran multitud, el hijo de Timeo -Bartimeo, un mendigo ciego- estaba sentado junto al camino.
Al enterarse de que pasaba Jesús, el Nazareno, se puso a gritar: "¡Jesús, Hijo de David, ten piedad de mí!".
Muchos lo reprendían para que se callara, pero él gritaba más fuerte: "¡Hijo de David, ten piedad de mí!".
Jesús se detuvo y dijo: "Llámenlo". Entonces llamaron al ciego y le dijeron: "¡Animo, levántate! El te llama".
Y el ciego, arrojando su manto, se puso de pie de un salto y fue hacia él.
Jesús le preguntó: "¿Qué quieres que haga por ti?". El le respondió: "Maestro, que yo pueda ver".
Jesús le dijo: "Vete, tu fe te ha salvado". En seguida comenzó a ver y lo siguió por el camino.

« Gritaba más fuerte »

     Que todo hombre que sabe que las tinieblas hacen de él un ciego... grite desde el fondo de su ser: << Jesús, hijo de David, ten misericordia de mí>>
     Pero escucha también lo que sigue a los gritos del ciego: << los que iban delante lo regañaban para que se callara>>(Lc 18,39).
     ¿Quiénes son estos? Ellos están ahí para representar los deseos de nuestra condición humana en este mundo, los que nos arrastran a la confusión, los vicios del hombre y el temor, que, con el deseo de impedir nuestro encuentro con Jesús, perturban nuestras mentes mediante la siembra de la tentación y quieren acallar la voz de nuestro corazón en la oración.
     En efecto, suele ocurrir con frecuencia  que nuestro deseo de volver de nuevo  a Dios... nuestro esfuerzo de alejar nuestros pecados por la oración, se ven frustrados por estos: la vigilancia de nuestro espíritu se relaja al entrar en contacto con ellos, llenan de confusión  nuestro corazón y ahogan el grito de nuestra oración ...
     ¿Qué hizo entonces el ciego para recibir luz a pesar de los obstáculos? <<Él gritó más fuerte: Hijo de David, ten compasión de mí! »... ciertamente, cuanto más nos agobie el desorden de nuestros deseos ...más debemos insistir con nuestra oración....cuanto más nublada esté la voz de nuestro corazón, hay que insistir con más fuerza , hasta dominar el desorden de los pensamientos que nos invaden y llegar a oídos fieles del Señor. Creo, que cada uno se reconocerá en esta imagen: en el momento en que nos esforzamos por desviarlos de nuestro corazón y dirigirlos  a Dios...  suelen ser tan inoportunos y nos hacen tanta fuerza que debemos combatirlos.  Pero insistiendo vigorosamente en la oración, haremos que  Jesús se pare al pasar. Como dice el Evangelio: "Jesús se detuvo y mandó que se lo trajeran" (v. 40).

San Marino

Santos Marino y Astirio, Mártires  San Marino pertenecía a una noble familia de Cesarea de Palestina y se había distinguido en el ejército.    Iba ya ser condecorado con el emblema de centurión, cuando uno de sus rivales objetó que no tenía derecho a aspirar a esa dignidad pues era cristiano y no podía ofrecer sacrificios al Emperador.

Al ser interrogado por el gobernador Aqueo, Marino se confesó servidor de Cristo y ante su negativa de adorar a las divinidades paganas, fue ejecutado inmediatamente. San Astirio, un senador romano que gozaba del favor del emperador asistió al martirio de Marino, envolvió el cadáver en su propia capa, se lo echó sobre los hombros y le dio cristiana sepultura.

Cuando el gobernador se enteró de lo sucedido, interrogó a Astirio y al confesarse cristiano, fue condenado al martirio.

Dios todopoderoso y eterno, que diste a los santos mártires San Marino y San Astirio la valentía de aceptar la muerte por el nombre de Cristo: concede también tu fuerza a nuestra debilidad para que, a ejemplo de aquellos que no dudaron en morir por ti, nosotros sepamos también ser fuertes, confesando tu nombre con nuestras vidas. Por nuestro Señor Jesucristo, tu Hijo.

They were on the way, going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus went ahead of them. They were amazed, and those who followed were afraid. Taking the Twelve aside again, he began to tell them what was going to happen to him.
Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death and hand him over to the Gentiles
who will mock him, spit upon him, scourge him, and put him to death, but after three days he will rise."
Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to him and said to him, "Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask of you."
He replied, "What do you wish (me) to do for you?"
They answered him, "Grant that in your glory we may sit one at your right and the other at your left."
Jesus said to them, "You do not know what you are asking. Can you drink the cup that I drink or be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?"
They said to him, "We can." Jesus said to them, "The cup that I drink, you will drink, and with the baptism with which I am baptized, you will be baptized;
but to sit at my right or at my left is not mine to give but is for those for whom it has been prepared."
When the ten heard this, they became indignant at James and John.
Jesus summoned them and said to them, "You know that those who are recognized as rulers over the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones make their authority over them felt.
But it shall not be so among you. Rather, whoever wishes to be great among you will be your servant;
whoever wishes to be first among you will be the slave of all.
For the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many."

"The Son of Man came... to give his life"

«If it is possible, let this cup pass from me» (Mt 26,39). Why did you rebuke Simon Peter when he said: «No such thing shall ever happen to you, Lord!» (Mt 16,22) when you yourself now say: «If it is possible, let this cup pass from me»? He well knew what he was saying to his Father and that it was indeed possible for the cup to pass from him, but he had come to drink it on behalf of all that with this cup he might pay the debt that the deaths of prophets and martyrs could not pay... He who had described his being put to death in the prophets and had foreshadowed the mystery of his death through the just, did not refuse to drink it when the time had come to bring this death to fulfilment. If he had not wanted to drink it but to push it aside he would not have compared his body to the Temple in the words: «Destroy this Temple and in three days I will raise it up» (Jn 2,19), nor would he have said to the sons of Zebedee: «Are you able to drink the cup that I shall drink?» and again: «There is a baptism with which I must be baptized» (Lk 12,50)...

«If it is possible, let this cup pass from me.» He said this because of the frailty he had put on, not in semblance but in reality. Because he had made himself small and had truly put on our weakness it was necessary for him to be afraid and shaken by his weakness. Having taken flesh, having put on weakness, eating when he was hungry, worn out by work, overcome by sleep, everything arising from the flesh had to happen when the time came for his death...

To comfort his disciples by his Passion Jesus felt what they felt. He took their fear on himself to show them, through his own likeness of soul, that we should not boast about death before we have undergone it. For if he who feared nothing was afraid and begged to be delivered even while knowing it to be impossible, how much more ought not the others to persevere in prayer before the temptation so as to be delivered from it when it came... He did not conceal his own fear so as to give courage to those who are afraid of death, that they might know that this fear does not lead to sin so long as they do not remain in it. «No, Father,» Jesus said, «but may your will be done»: may I die to give life to many.

Wednesday, 02 March 2011 St. Simplicius, Pope (+ 483) SAINT SIMPLICIUS Pope (+ 483)         Saint Simplicius was the ornament of the Roman clergy under Sts. Leo and Hilarius, and succeeded the latter in the pontificate in 468. He was raised by God to corn fort and support his Church amidst the greatest storms. All the provinces of the Western Empire, out of Italy, were fallen into the hands of barbarians.         The emperors for many years were rather shadows of power than sovereigns, and, in the eighth year of the pontificate of Simplicius, Rome itself fell a prey to foreigners. Italy, by oppressions and the ravages of barbarians, was left almost a desert without inhabitants; and the imperial armies consisted chiefly of barbarians, hired under the name of auxiliaries. These soon saw that their masters were in their power. The Heruli demanded one third of the lands of Italy, and upon refusal chose for their leader Odoacer, one of the lowest extraction, but a resolute and intrepid man, who was proclaimed king of Rome in 476. He put to death Orestes, who was regent of the empire for his son Augustulus, whom the senate had advanced to the imperial throne. Odoacer spared the life of Augustulus, appointed him a salary of six thousand pounds of gold, and permitted him to live at full liberty near Naples.         Pope Simplicius was wholly taken up in comforting and relieving the afflicted, and in sowing the seeds of the Catholic faith among the barbarians.         The East gave his zeal no less employment and concern. Peter Cnapheus, a violent Eutychian, was made by the heretics Patriarch of Antioch; and Peter Mengus, one of the most profligate men, that of Alexandria. Acacius, the Patriarch of Constantinople, received the sentence of St. Simplicius against Cnapheus, but supported Mongus against him and the Catholic Church, and was a notorious changeling, double-dealer, and artful hypocrite, who often made religion serve his own private ends. St. Simplicius at length discovered his artifices, and redoubled his zeal to maintain the holy faith, which he saw betrayed on every side, whilst the patriarchal sees of Alexandria and Antioch were occupied by furious wolves, and there was not one Catholic king in the whole world. The emperor measured everything by his passions and human views.         St. Simplicius, having sat fifteen years, eleven months, and six days, went to receive the reward of his labors in 483. He was buried in St. Peter's on the 2d of March.

Miércoles de la VIII Semana del Tiempo Ordinario

Libro de Eclesiástico 36,5-6.10-17.
Renueva los signos y repite las maravillas, glorifica tu mano y tu brazo derecho.
Despierta tu furor y derrama tu ira, suprime al adversario y extermina al enemigo.
Congrega a todas las tribus de Jacob, y entrégales su herencia, como al comienzo.
Ten piedad, Señor, del pueblo que es llamado con tu Nombre, de Israel, a quien trataste como a un primogénito.
Ten compasión de tu Ciudad santa, de Jerusalén, el lugar de tu reposo.
Llena a Sión de alabanzas por tu triunfo, y a tu pueblo, cólmalo de tu gloria.

Evangelio según San Marcos 10,32-45.
Mientras iban de camino para subir a Jerusalén, Jesús se adelantaba a sus discípulos; ellos estaban asombrados y los que lo seguían tenían miedo. Entonces reunió nuevamente a los Doce y comenzó a decirles lo que le iba a suceder:
"Ahora subimos a Jerusalén; allí el Hijo del hombre será entregado a los sumos sacerdotes y a los escribas. Lo condenarán a muerte y lo entregarán a los paganos:
ellos se burlarán de él, lo escupirán, lo azotarán y lo matarán. Y tres días después, resucitará".
Santiago y Juan, los hijos de Zebedeo, se acercaron a Jesús y le dijeron: "Maestro, queremos que nos concedas lo que te vamos a pedir".
El les respondió: "¿Qué quieren que haga por ustedes?".
Ellos le dijeron: "Concédenos sentarnos uno a tu derecha y el otro a tu izquierda, cuando estés en tu gloria".
Jesús les dijo: "No saben lo que piden. ¿Pueden beber el cáliz que yo beberé y recibir el bautismo que yo recibiré?".
"Podemos", le respondieron. Entonces Jesús agregó: "Ustedes beberán el cáliz que yo beberé y recibirán el mismo bautismo que yo.
En cuanto a sentarse a mi derecha o a mi izquierda, no me toca a mí concederlo, sino que esos puestos son para quienes han sido destinados".
Los otros diez, que habían oído a Santiago y a Juan, se indignaron contra ellos.
Jesús los llamó y les dijo: "Ustedes saben que aquellos a quienes se considera gobernantes, dominan a las naciones como si fueran sus dueños, y los poderosos les hacen sentir su autoridad.
Entre ustedes no debe suceder así. Al contrario, el que quiera ser grande, que se haga servidor de ustedes;
y el que quiera ser el primero, que se haga servidor de todos.
Porque el mismo Hijo del hombre no vino para ser servido, sino para servir y dar su vida en rescate por una multitud".

« El hijo del hombre ha venido ,,,para dar su vida »

     "Padre mío, si es posible, que pase de mí este cáliz" (Mt 26,39)¿Por qué, Pedro, te lo llevaste a parte y le increpaste diciendo:<<¡Lejos de ti tal cosa, Señor! Eso no puede pasarte>> (Mt 16,22), tú que ahora dices:<< si es posible, que pase de mí este cáliz>>? Él sabía bien lo que le decía a su Padre, y que era posible no beber el cáliz, pero Él ha venido para beberlo por todos, con el fin de saldar bebiéndolo la deuda que la muerte de los profetas y los mártires no pudieron pagar... El que había anunciado su muerte por boca de los profetas y había prefigurado el misterio de su muerte por los justos, cuando ha llegado el momento de consumar esta muerte, no rechazó beberla. Si no la hubiera querido beber,  por que le repugnaba, no hubiera comparado nunca su cuerpo al Templo con estas palabras: << Destruid este templo y en tres días lo levantaré>> (Jn 2,19); no hubiera dicho a los hijos del Zebedeo: << ¿podéis beber la copa que yo beberé? Y también << Con un bautismo tengo que ser bautizado ¡y qué angustia sufro hasta que se cumpla!>> (Lc 12,50)...
     "Si es posible que pase de mi este cáliz" dijo esto a causa de la debilidad de la que se había revestido, no pretendiendo más. Pues se hizo pequeño y se revistió realmente de nuestra debilidad, sintió miedo y se estremeció en su flaqueza. Habiéndose hecho carne, habiéndose revestido de debilidad, comiendo cuando tenía hambre, fatigado por el trabajo, vencido por el sueño, era necesario que se hubiera cumplido todo cuando llegara el momento de su muerte.
     Para fortalecer a los discípulos en su Pasión, Jesús experimentó lo que ellos experimentaron, Él sintió su mismo miedo, con el fin de mostrarles, por la similitud de su alma, que no va a la muerte alardeando sino sufriendo como cualquiera de ellos.
Para dar valor a aquellos que temen la muerte, no escondió su propio temor, a fin  de que supieran que este miedo, no les conduce al pecado siempre y cuando no se dejen llevar por él.<< No ,Padre, dijo Jesús, que se haga tu voluntad>>: que yo muera para dar vida a una multitud.

Santa Ángela de la Cruz

Nació en Sevilla el 30 de enero de 1846. Desde muy pequeña  tuvo  que abandonar la escuela para trabajar como obrera en un taller de  zapatería.  En 1871, con un acto privado prometió al Señor vivir según los consejos  evangélicos. 

En su experiencia de oración vio una cruz vacía frente a la de Cristo  crucificado y recibió la inspiración de inmolarse junto a Él por la  salvación  de las almas. Esta experiencia espiritual esclareció el horizonte de su  vida y  la del Instituto que iba a fundar. Obedeciendo a su director, comenzó a  escribir un diario espiritual en el que fue detallando el estilo de vida  de sus   hijas. En 1875 dio comienzo el Instituto de Hermanas de la Compañía de  la Cruz  que se distinguiría por el servicio a Dios en los hermanos más pobres “haciéndose   pobre con el pobre para llevarlo a Cristo”.

Este lema fue llevado a su  vida y fundamenta la espiritualidad y misión de la Compañía de la Cruz.  Admirada de todos y llamada por el pueblo “madre de los pobres”,  despreciando toda gloria humana y buscando la total humillación, se  durmió en  el Señor en Sevilla a la edad de 86 años el 2 de marzo de 1932. 

Fue beatificada en Sevilla por el Papa Juan Pablo II el 5 de noviembre de 1982, y canonizada por el mismo en Madrid  el 4 de mayo de 2003. Su cuerpo incorrupto reposa en su capilla de la casa madre  y su memoria litúrgica se viene celebrando el día 5 de noviembre.

Concédenos, Señor, un conocimiento profundo y un amor intenso a tu santo nombre, semejantes a los que diste a Santa Ángela de la Cruz, para que así, sirviéndote con sinceridad y lealtad, a ejemplo suyo también nosotros te agrademos con nuestra fe y con nuestras obras.
