"The good seed is the children of the kingdom"

DAILY GOSPEL: 27/07/2010
«Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.» John 6,68

Tuesday of the Seventeenth week in Ordinary Time

Book of Jeremiah 14:17-22.
Speak to them this word: Let my eyes stream with tears day and night, without rest, Over the great destruction which overwhelms the virgin daughter of my people, over her incurable wound.
If I walk out into the field, look! those slain by the sword; If I enter the city, look! those consumed by hunger. Even the prophet and the priest forage in a land they know not.
Have you cast Judah off completely? Is Zion loathsome to you? Why have you struck us a blow that cannot be healed? We wait for peace, to no avail; for a time of healing, but terror comes instead.
We recognize, O LORD, our wickedness, the guilt of our fathers; that we have sinned against you.
For your name's sake spurn us not, disgrace not the throne of your glory; remember your covenant with us, and break it not.
Among the nations' idols is there any that gives rain? Or can the mere heavens send showers? Is it not you alone, O LORD, our God, to whom we look? You alone have done all these things.

Psalms 79:8.9.11.13.
Do not hold past iniquities against us; may your compassion come quickly, for we have been brought very low.
Help us, God our savior, for the glory of your name. Deliver us, pardon our sins for your name's sake.
Let the groans of prisoners come before you; by your great power free those doomed to death.
Then we, your people, the sheep of your pasture, will give thanks to you forever; through all ages we will declare your praise.

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 13:36-43.
Then, dismissing the crowds, he went into the house. His disciples approached him and said, "Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field."
He said in reply, "He who sows good seed is the Son of Man,
the field is the world, the good seed the children of the kingdom. The weeds are the children of the evil one,
and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels.
Just as weeds are collected and burned (up) with fire, so will it be at the end of the age.
The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will collect out of his kingdom all who cause others to sin and all evildoers.
They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.
Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Whoever has ears ought to hear.
Mt 13,36-43

"The good seed is the children of the kingdom"
There aren't two worlds – the physical and the spiritual – there's only one: God's Kingdom on earth as it is in heaven (Mt 6,10).

Many of us pray, «Our Father, who art in heaven,» thinking that God is up there, which creates the duality of two worlds. A lot of people in the West like to keep matter and the spirit very comfortably and conveniently apart. All truth is one, all reality is one. As soon as we take the enfleshment of God, the incarnation, which for Christians is represented by the person of Jesus Christ, then we start taking things seriously.

St Pantaleon, Martyr († c. 303)

SAINT PANTALEON
Martyr
(† c. 303)
St. Pantaleon was physician to the Emperor Galerius Maximianus, and a Christian, but, deceived by often hearing the false maxims of the world applauded, was unhappily seduced into an apostasy. But a zealous Christian called Hermolaus awakened his conscience to a sense of his guilt, and brought him again into the fold of the Church.
The penitent ardently wished to expiate his crime by martyrdom; and to prepare himself for the conflict, when Diocletian's bloody persecution broke out at Nicomedia, in 303, he distributed all his possessions among the poor. Not long after this action he was taken up, and in his house were also apprehended Hermolaus, Hermippus, and Hermocrates. After suffering many torments, they were all condemned to lose their heads.
St. Pantaleon suffered the day after the rest. His relics were translated to Constantinople, and there kept with great honor. The greatest part of them are now shown in the abbey of St. Denys near Paris, but his head is at Lyons.
